Moving to another country with young children?
Moving to another country with young children? I will tell you a little bit about how my adventure with this subject matter began.
To make a big move is exciting, but at the same time, extremely challenging. A mix of emotions and fear of causing harm to our little ones….My husband Nico and I are convinced that the tools we are giving our daughter Justi (the language, the experience, getting to know new cultures, making new friends, etc.) trump any of these fears we may have. We know there is no magic recipe, but we always prioritize explaining everything to Justi, and from open dialogue, we are able to build beautiful, life-long lessons. Although we went through very difficult times, she always understood and rolled with the punches, always with the most beautiful, bright smile!
We still face great challenges and I do not have all the answers…
When having to choose which toys we would take and which ones we had to give away, we made it a game that turned this seemingly difficult task for a child into a fun and joyous memory.
But her mother wasn’t always perfect (far from it) and when her room was emptied, Justi suffered the sadness of detachment, accompanied by the fear of what was to come. Luckily dad was there to help and accompany her through these emotions…
There is no magical or perfect recipe, everyone will respond differently. I think, however, that the key is to support one another, and give ourselves and each other the time and space to express how we really feel.
